Put The Cottage birthday party on your list of Lake Placid activities
37 years ago The Cottage Café opened on the shores of Mirror Lake. On Friday, May 24, its' patrons and fans will gather once again to celebrate friendship, food and drink.
“There is no greater fun than a birthday party,” said The Cottage manager Lisa Randall. “Number 37 is going to be a great occasion. Long before the party begins people will probably get the scent of our slow-cooked, top round of beef, prepared street side on Friday afternoon in front of The Cottage.”
That will be included in the complimentary buffet, which will be offered when the party starts at 5 PM. In addition to the food and drink, the popular five-piece Adirondack band Big Slyde will provide the entertainment and dance music.
“We’ll see friends that stop by regularly, and we’ll see those who come especially for this. The annual birthday party gives us the chance to show our appreciation for those regular customers who have become so loyal to us over the years. And, of course, there are those who just stumble into our birthday party unknowingly and become new friends. It’s terrific and we can’t wait for it to start.”
The anticipated guests will come from near and far, such is The Cottage’s attraction. Recently, a group of adult hikers from Ontario arrived for several days in the Adirondack woods. Yet they began their itinerary with lunch on the sunny deck. There is no end to stories such as this.
In terms of longevity, no other dining establishment in the village has sated it customers for a longer period of time. Taking that a step further, top snow sports publications have consistently ranked The Cottage the top après ski spot in Lake Placid.
When you include a year-round, indoor-outdoor service environment, together with exquisite views of the lake and surrounding mountains and attentive, friendly service, you come to understand the popularity of this cozy establishment.
It is interesting to know that prior to 1976 the building that became The Cottage was part of the inn’s lodging offerings. But thanks to the prescience of owner Ed Weibrecht, who saw its potential when the structure contained several guest rooms, The Cottage has become not only Lake Placid’s social gathering place, but its hearty pub menu, variety of beverages and stunning setting has created legions of loyal followers.
"Our birthday event is not only the time to celebrate the passing of another year, but it also gives us the chance to thank our many Cottage guests over many years who have made us successful,” said Weibrecht. “And we would certainly be remiss if we did not mention our dedicated employees who are instrumental in making The Cottage the spot that it is.”
When the birthday party is over, The Cottage staff will have little time to rest, recover and prepare to welcome Lake Placid’s Memorial Day visitors.
The Cottage aficionados should also know that a new menu will debut in June.
