Lake Placid Spa Introduces New Service
If you've ever had a great massage you know just how amazing you feel after. Completely renewed, every muscle relaxed from head to toe, and already looking forward to the next one.
Now imagine if the therapist didn't just use her hands but the weight of her body in a perfectly balanced way to ensure the gentleness of a Swedish Massage with the benefits of a deep tissue massage, perfectly stretching and relaxing each of your tense muscles.
The originator and founder Ruth Piper Hardee summed up this massage perfectly when she said it was "The deepest most luxurious barefoot massage on the planet"!
The art of Ashiatsu while being a western treatment is mostly practiced from the Pacific Rim to Eastern Asia and is aimed at whole body wellness. The therapist uses their feet to target specific pressure points using the principles of Shiatsu massage combined with flowing strokes of the feet to achieve the perfect balance of pressure and massage.
The term comes from the Chinese word "ashi" meaning foot and "astu" meaning pressure. Along with receiving the benefits of traditional massage Ashiatsu has also been known to:
- improve spine alignment
- relieve aches and pains in the back and neck
- improve posture
- provide a deep tissue massage with little or none of the pin-point pain associated with a traditional deep tissue massage
- provide a sense of well being
