Meet new cosmetologist Chelsea Walker
I recently joined the Mirror Lake Spa team in early September. I bring with me 10 years of cosmetology experience.
Graduating from the Triple Cities School of Beauty in 2003, I started my first cosmetology position that same week and stayed 5 years working alongside two other hairstylists with ample experience. It was there I learned from hands on experience and gained the confidence that has allowed me to grow in this trade.
I then moved to my home state of California where I managed a salon of 13 stylists and one licensed barber. This was also a huge milestone in my career because it was such an ethnically diverse environment and I learned amazing clipping and blending techniques from the barber Paulette, who had over 20 years of barber experience. It was there in Corona, California that I began to realize my talents, although I had a longing for New York.
After a year and a half I packed my belongings and headed east. I knew the Adirondacks were what I missed most and felt like I had just begun to explore the mountains before moving to California. I settled in Marcellus, New York and worked at a beautiful day spa in Skaneateles, a well-known destination wedding town. Working in Skaneateles was another stepping stone in my career where I gained experience providing service at a higher standard.
My passion for the outdoors, stewardship, and sustainability, brought me to the decision to go back to school for a degree in Environmental Technology. While in school and working at the salon I joined the Geology Club where I went on my first hiking trip to the High Peaks. I fell in love with the area immediately and knew in the back of my mind I would move here someday. Nearly two years later I’m fulfilled as an outdoor enthusiast and avid seasoned hiker while working at what I love doing at this amazing establishment. I’m enjoying working with an excellent staff, living in a small, friendly, mountain town, and working toward completing the 46 High Peaks (I’m just over halfway there).
I absolutely love working at Mirror lake Inn and am reminded every day that I couldn’t be happier with the decisions and choices that brought me here. I truly enjoy helping people and making them feel good about themselves. I don’t have a particular service I enjoy performing more than any other; I just enjoy transforming people’s look via up do’s and formal styling, haircuts, color, and highlighting, and especially blow styles. Having had the plethora of continued education following cosmetology school, there is no challenge I am afraid to take on.
It’s a pleasure to be a part of this community and I’m looking forward to meeting many of you. If you don’t see me in the spa or grocery store, you will find me on the trails with my dog and best friend, Ryder (above photo). Every day is a wonderful day in the great ADK!
Best to you.
